KRISTIN DIABLE
• 2004 NACA Mid-Atlantic Showcase
In the past three years Kristin Diable has independently produced and released three CDs, been on two solo cross country tours, garnered college radio play throughout the east coast, had MTV pick up her In My Mind CD for rotation on the drama series Undressed, and recently uprooted to New York City from her hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; more importantly however, she has been recruiting new listeners and renewing lost faith in the heart and soul of popular music. Pretty ambitious for someone who just reached the age of 20. While staying close to melodic hooks and a keen sense of melody, Diable still manages to be humbly original in her songwriting both lyrically and musically. Listeners around the country have been captivated by her unapologetically honest lyrics, colorful and sophisticated guitar work, and an ethereal voice that resonates long after the shows are over. But if you ask Diable about her considerable fan base and the success she has built nearly single-handedly, it is clear that where she is currently and where she is going in the future should only be expected. She will plainly tell you how much more she’s concerned with writing well-crafted songs with the capacity to withstand time, rather than cheaply churning out music as an easily consumable and disposable commodity. She will be glad to tell you all about future plans for her independent label, new promotional street campaigns for the upcoming album, and booking tactics for the acoustic musician, but Diable’s motives and intentions in playing music are much more simple. She is quite in love with the world and just wants to share that experience with anyone who wants to experience it. Daring to be more focused on the content rather than product, show-by-show and fan-by-fan, she’s doing just that. So, instead of making this glorified biography any longer, I’d like to recommend that you go take a listen to the CD, visit the website, or check out a live show and just let the music speak for itself. Enjoy.
