LIS HARVEY
• 2005 NACA Northern Plains Showcase American alt-folk singer LIS HARVEY conjures the open road. Breezy vocals, acoustic guitar, and lyrics to stop a semi dead in its tracks… this is music to put on repeat all the way to Vegas. “[Lis Harvey is] a romantic, all right, but not the empty-headed sort. “ So writes THE WASHINGTON POST about Lis Harvey, whose romance with the road landed her in RIPLEY’S BELIEVE IT OR NOT at age 25. That year, she played 52 concerts in 50 states in 60 days - and won the first GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ for touring. “The trip was as much a testament to her dedication as it was a publicity stunt,” writes THE ONION AV CLUB. “Hard- touring folk-popper Lis Harvey is capable of inspiring smiles even when singing about heartbreak or calamity. Her warm, inviting voice - often compared to Lisa Loeb's or Shawn Colvin's - conjurs airy, personal vignettes than can hold a room captive." Lis’s voice and finger-style guitar draw “spring stream songs” (DIRTY LINEN) from deep rock roots, producing jazzy hooks with down-to-the-dirt flavor. In 2004, she was a “New Folk” Songwriting FINALIST at the MINNESOTA FOLK FESTIVAL, and WON a spot in the 2004 OTTAWA FOLK FESTIVAL, alongside Michael Franti & Spearhead, Arlo Guthrie, and Judy Collins. In the past few years, Lis has logged over 500 concerts in North America, released four internationally-distributed recordings, and launched “Will Folk For Food,” a domestic violence awareness benefit tour for safe-houses and shelters. Her latest CD, Porcupine, WON the 2005 Madison Area Music Award for BEST ACOUSTIC ALBUM. Porcupine also charted last fall among the TOP FIVE Folk/ Roots Albums on Canadian Galaxie Network and among the TOP FOLK ALBUMS on the US Folk DJ List. Lis has been on the radio program ACOUSTIC CAFE, on NPR shows CARTALK and WHATD’YA KNOW, on CNN and in THE ASSOCIATED PRESS. Listen to Lis’s new album online at http://lisharvey.com - and experience what Columbia University calls "a true folk poet." Lis Harvey albums are sold at Borders stores, Amazon.com, and in fine record stores everywhere.* *iTUNES is the exclusive retailer of Lis’s full discography
