THADDEUS REX
www.thaddeusrex.com

As a boy, Thaddeus Rex wanted to be a ninja, a magician, an alien, a dinosaur and much more, but his dreams were squashed, one by one, as grown-ups kept saying, “That’s impossible.” So he gave up and satisfied himself with reading books, playing records and inventing stories.

Taught space travel and swashbuckling were impossible careers, Thaddeus turned his love for reading into a passion for teaching, and off he went to Indiana University, to study to be a professor of philosophy.

While there, Thaddeus discovered martial arts, receiving black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Jujitsu. It suddenly dawned on him that after all these years he’d found his dream of becoming a ninja. He began work on other projects.

Teaching himself to play guitar, Thaddeus joined a band and started writing songs. When the bandleader nicknamed him T-Rex he became a dinosaur too.

Leaving behind an academic career track, Thaddeus used his philosophy to plunge headfirst into entertainment. Combining that passion for teaching with infectious melodies and hilarious stories, he joined Indiana’s Emmy Award winning PBS Kids show, ‘The Friday Zone’, becoming their resident musician.

After leaving PBS to write, record and perform full time, Thaddeus went on to win the prestigious NAPPA HONORS AWARD, CMWA’s BEST SONG OF THE YEAR 2004 (kids 8-12 category) and now makes over 200 appearances each year with music that’s been hailed “a sincere celebration of reading” (Los Angeles Times) and “a detour off the beaten kid-music path” (Parenting Magazine). Realizing the importance of books, songs and dreams, Thaddeus passionately endorses the fun of reading and the power of imagination.

He looks forward to taking up the practice of magic and hopes to one day take his audience to another planet, finally becoming an alien too. Sing… Laugh… Eat a Book!!
